What is Lime?

  • Lime is a soil amendment made by grinding limestone or dolomite, which is very high in calcium.

What are the Common types of Garden Lime?

Two types of lime are commonly used in lawns and gardens, agricultural lime and dolomitic lime.

  • Agricultural lime, also sold as garden lime, is made from Limestone which mainly consists of two types of minerals; namely, calcite and aragonite.
  • Dolomitic lime is made from dolomite, also a carbonate mineral, but is made of ‘calcium magnesium carbonate’ instead of pure calcium carbonate material. Dolomite is sometimes called a double carbonate rock.
